Plateau State House of Assembly to Set Up Diaspora Desk Officer

The Plateau State House of Assembly has indicated willingness to set up Diaspora Desk Officer to strengthen engagement with Plateau citizens abroad. They also donated a cultural costume to support cultural initiatives of Plateau State Association UK (PSA UK)

These were highlights at a meeting between a delegation of honourable members of Plateau State House of Assembly and the Plateau State Association UK (PSA UK) on Thursday, 8th January, 2026 where a myriad of issues were discussed to support governance and strengthen ties

Earlier in his opening remarks, Dr Solomon Chollom, President of Plateau State Association UK had congratulated the honourable members on their ongoing capacity building in London, cordial working relationship with other arms of government and continuous oversight meant to engender accountability in governance. He further took the members down memory lane on how PSA UK came to being, the journey so far and where the current administration is headed. He said his administration is committed to contributing meaningful to governance and development back home as seen in his policy direction such as inauguration of a standing on homeland intervention, world press conference held in November 2025 to call out Nigerian government and international community to intervene on deteriorating security in Nigeria and Plateau state. Others according to him included planned capacity building for health workers in Plateau state with plans concluded with some hospitals in London to have them on observatory visit.

In his response, leader of the delegation, Deputy Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ajiji Madaki, commended PSA UK for sticking together in a foreign land. He acknowledged the concerns and inputs of PSA UK around security and development back home as genuine and patriotic, and assured that the House of Assembly will make the concerns topical in their next legislative business.

Speaking in turns, honourable members showed their admiration of what PSA UK represents and openly declared support to their initiatives.


In an early call and mobilising, Dr Vullong Kwarkas, PSA UK Social and Cultural Secretary, used the opportunity to invite the honourable members to the PSA UK 2026 cultural day celebrating coming up later in the year, assuring that the event will be a huge window to showcase Plateau to the international community.


Serving as spokesperson of the delegation, Hon Daniel Nanbol Listick and Chairman House committee on Security and Culture was moved by initiatives of PSA UK to establish a hub for Plateau cultural artefacts in UK to keep children born in UK in touch with home, promised that the Assembly will donate artefacts to curate the centre. To match his words with action, he donated his signature legislative bag – an artefact of the Taroh culture, a bag for hunting and warfare – to the excitement of all in attendance
