Nigeria is the most populated county in Africa and the seventh most populated country in the world, with over 205 million residents. It is a melting pot of ethnicities and languages.

The most populated county in Africa has many people living within it's borders. It is multicultural and one of the diverse countries in the world in terms of indigenous languages.

Experts estimate that more than 500 different languages are spoken and there are over 250 ethnic groups with a distinct culture and tradition. This accounts for the wide range of customs and traditions in the country that gives it impressive cultural diversity.

The giant of Africa is blessed with great potentials in terms of landmarks, wildlife reserves, dense rainforest, savannah and rare primate habitats. It is still considered a developing country.

Religion is a huge part of Nigeria's identity and it is split almost evenly down the middle with 49% of the country identifying as Christians and 48% identifying as Muslims.Other people intermingle these religious beliefs with indigenous religion.

As Nigeria celebrates her 60th independence anniversary, it is a time to reflect. Let's look at what Nigeria was, what Nigeria is and what we hope Nigeria becomes. We need to stand for what unites us rather than what divides us.Yes, we have challenges and cracks in our wall that are evidently threatening to tear us apart.Situations that leave us with little or nothing to celebrate. Hard times that are threatening our co-existence , daily huddles that test our loyalty, agitations that threaten our peace. But, our beauty is in our diversity and our strength is in our unity.

There is no way to peace, peace is the way. Unity brings peace, peace brings progress and progress means growth and development. Our founding fathers knew it right from the beginning and gave us the slogan "Unity, Peace and progress". I believe in a new Nigeria.Together we can rebuild and be great.

"I pledge to Nigeria my country, To be faithful loyal and honest, To serve Nigeria with all my strength, To defend her unity, And uphold her honor and glory So help me God.
