A concerned group has expressed dismay that results of parliamentary elections held last satuday in some parts of Plateau North Senatorial zone have not been announced. This much was revealed in a press statement released by Yilji Ibrahim, leader of the group. Below is the statement

FROM THE TUDUN WADA/KABONG COMMUNITY ON THE REFUSAL OF INEC TO ANNOUNCE AND DECLARE THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RESULTS FOR SENATE PLATEAU NORTH AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES JOS NORTH/BASSA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY .

25th February, 2019

It would be recalled that citizens of Nigeria came out in their numbers to freely exercise their franchise on Saturday 23/2/2019. The results if the senate Plateau north and Jos North/Bass federal constituency had been collated and announcement/ declaration of winners was to be made only for the Plateau State Resident Commissioner to stand down proceedings at the very point of declaration.

The collated results clearly indicate and confirm an outright victory for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rep. I.D Gyang and Jonathan Dabo with very wide margins. We therefore caution the REC not to subvert the will and wish of the people.
It is however disturbing and unacceptable to us that the REC suddenly took over the process from the Returning Officers and took a decision to subject the results to a meeting if so called stakeholders. This is very strange to the Electoral Act as it does not admit of such.
In this regards, we insist that the REC should allow the returning Officers to play the role assigned to them by the Electoral Act i.e that of announcing and declaring the results forthwith.

The REC should not allow his personal or any supervening interest to negatively affect the prevailing peace in the state.
We urge the Plates State Commissioner of Police, the DSS Director and all other Security Heads to intervene in this matter.

Signed : Yilji Ibrahim
