2019 Starter Pack: Start with What You Have

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can – Arthur Ashe

So what do you have? Let me hazard a guess. You've got legs, hands, voice, eyes and a sound mind. Assuming that is all you've got in that starter pack. Let's examine what you can do with it. First, you can begin your journey to becoming the greatest music star ever. Does it sound funny? Forget that the drum set, piano, guitar, dance crew and voice pitch artistry are not yet in place. All you need is a divine and natural melody in your heart. Brood on it and you are on your way to stardom. That is not all you can do with that starter pack. You can also begin a journey to becoming the world best footballer or athlete in the next decade. Forget that the boots, training kit, standard pitch and world best coach are not yet in place. All you need is undying passion to kick the ball night and day. This is because no one mines pure and shiny gold from the crust and no one harvests cooked food from the farm. Almost everything begins from a rough, crude and obscure precursor. It is series of improvements and upgrading that turn sewage sludge into portable drinking water presentable to kings.

Have you asked yourself what the embryo survives on in the egg on its way to becoming a chick? Where does the bean seed draw nourishment from to begin growth processes before it develops roots? The answer is not far-fetched. They use what they have in their immediate starter packs before external support is accessed. The embryo must make use of the resources in the yolk to begin life in the egg. Similarly, the bean seed must make do with only the nutrients in it to initiate the process of germination before developing roots to draw from the environment

With only our eyes, we can spot opportunities and threats around and with the instrumentality of the mind, we are able to analyze and exploit or avoid them to our own good. When commencing a project, it is often easier for people to write a list of what they don't have than that what they have. It is also easier for them to dwell on what is not in place than what is really in place.

Never begin your inventory with what you don't have, always begin with what you have. This is because what you have will naturally charge you on while what you do not have could dampen your morale.

Although we live in an ecosystem with complex interdependence, I make bold to say that nothing ever survives solely on others without initial capacity for self-preservation and survival. Mind you, the interdependence we have in the ecosystem gives you both opportunities to prey and be preyed upon. It comes with equal measure of help and distress, life and death; that is why only the fittest survives. So a bank loan, for example, to start a business comes with the responsibility of service the loan in line with terms and conditions

If you have not learnt to live on what you have for a start, don't expect to fare any better when you eventually have what you think you lack. Living on what you have enables you to build capacity to eventually live on what you do not have. The baby must suckle from the processed food from the mother (milk) at early life before building capacity to process his own. As such, forcing a meal of rice and stew down the throat of a one month old is both insane and suicidal.

Therefore, to start well, look more on what you have than on what you do not have
