With the 2019 general election fast approaching, the Plateau Debate Group (PDG) has disclosed that it has concluded plans to run a pre-qualification poll for all gubernatorial candidates in the state between 6.00hrs on 12th and 23:59hrs on 23rd December, 2018.
This much was contained in a communication to the candidates signed by Dr Daniel Meshak and Nanlep Kumle, chairman and secretary of the group, respectively. They informed that the pre-qualification poll which will be hosted on PDG facebook page (www.facebook.com/plateaudebate), “became necessary in view of the constraints of time and space as it will be impossible to have all 22 candidates on one stage for a 2-hour live debate”
The statement added that only the top 4 four candidates from the online poll will be invited for the live debate coming up on 26th January, 2019 in Jos
The debate organizers admonished the gubernatorial candidates and party faithfuls to keep a date with the online poll and mobilize their teeming supporters to vote for them to qualify for the live debate
It would be recalled that the PDG had her maiden debate in 2015, an event that was applauded by many as a step towards deepening democracy in Nigeria. The PDG is a non-partisan, non-profit and non-religious body of Plateau citizens who are committed to entrenching democratic culture in Nigeria's electoral system
