CONDEMNATION IS A NEGATIVE STIMULUS

CONDEMNATION IS A NEGATIVE STIMULUS

Sometimes we discourage people we should have inspired. We become unnecessarily critical about what they did wrong or what they failed to do rather than on what they did right or initiatives they have brought on board. As a result, we emphasize more on condemnation instead of commendation. The former batters morale while the later inspires non-performers to productivity.

Accepted that in our desire to get the best out of people we are distraught when they make mistakes, but we need to make a choice on the right inspirational tablet to use as a wrong choice of words, uninspiring looks and abysmal ratings, at first glance, may ultimately wreck down what we should have woken up. We are often at hand to explain and discuss their wrongs with copious citations and elaborations until we bring them down to earth to apologize while occasions of commendation are either hardly brought to the fore or passed by with blanketed and masked statements. As a result, people around us hear more of their wrongs than their rights; their failures than their successes. This creates a negative image of them within. They feel they are the worst beings around, they become short in confidence and bereft of ideas. They feel insecure around us and a gap ensures in the relationship with hitherto close allies eventually living in isolated camps.

Outright condemnation has never fueled anyone to success. It is not same as correction! When correcting, you sit the person down and explain his gaffes to him in a manner he understands while in the process preferring solution to the issue at hand. As a result, the person goes back guided and empowered through wise counsel. Condemnation on the other hand will only elaborate on the perceived wrong, most times harshly, without prescribing a solution to help the wounded soldier. While correction seeks to restore and empower the person, condemnation seeks to convince the person that he is bad!

To get the best out of people therefore, we have to maintain a healthy balance between commendation and condemnation. Everyone must learn to convert condemnation into the active energy of motivation that comes with commendation to enable us move on upwards.
