ANALYSING THE ANALYSTS III
 
In my series on "Analysing the Analysts" of the political space in Nigeria, I today bring you yet another group of analysts which I simply tag "THE AUDIENCE-SENSITIVE ANALYST.
 
These category of analysts are all things to all politicians so that they can get something into their pockets. They can say anything about any politician so long as it will go down well with the audience at the ambience. They don't mind contradicting themselves on same issue and same politician when the audience if that will suit the various audience they are addressing.
 
The audience-sensitive analyst is one that the audience around him determines what he says and how he says it. When the audience is singing "Hossana in the Highest", he will naturally join in the praise parade and even take the lead vocals. Minutes later, when he finds himself among a mob-like audience chanting " Crucify Him" he will not hesitate to force his way through the crowd to carry the must inciting placard, leading the park against the same politician or issue he has just sang in luxuriant praise to the high heavens.
 
These analysts are chameleon-like in analysis and are bereft of ideology. They wouldn't want to stand alone, not even for a worthy cause as their trophy is the soothing praise and acceptance they get from praise-freak audience. They confuse the polity and are a huge liability to any principal that would count on their services in political marketing or research. They can never give a logical and balanced position on issues.
 
The audience-sensitive analyst may think he is being smart by playing from both sides of the field. He may also be in the illusion that he is expanding his popularity base without the understanding that he is undoing himself with double tongue and unpredictable gesticulations that can at best create the pleasure and recreation of comedians on a well set stage for smart audience. These analysts must not mistaken the rapt attention, rapturous applause and wild jubilations that herald their presence or presentations as an endorsement of their credibility or proven acceptability as they will face the shock of their lives when they eventually stick out their neck for any serious engagement in life.
 
Analysts of the political contour must bear in mind that they are critical stake holders in the Nigerian project since most politically-naive citizens depend on their surgical analysis for illumination into the polity. As such they must do their job with the consciousness and commitment of a nationalist.
