THE PROSTRATE PYRAMID

THE PROSTRATE PYRAMID

Tall in the hall
Head and shoulders above peers
You dwarfed lofty heights
Rugged and unruffled
Tall in abundance and abasement
Sleek, slim and elegant
Beauty of the savannah
Glory of the north
Pride of Nigeria
Plateau the pyramid

THE PROSTRATE PYRAMID

Tall in the hall
Head and shoulders above peers
You dwarfed lofty heights
Rugged and unruffled
Tall in abundance and abasement
Sleek, slim and elegant
Beauty of the savannah
Glory of the north
Pride of Nigeria
Plateau the pyramid

Pyramid amid tyranny
Standing gleeful
With gait and height
Cynosure of eyes
Your weather pampers the destitute
Your people hospitable in hostility
Your terrain is tourism
You bond is magnetic
Your culture is cultured
Your elders lead
This was
Yes it was
On the pyramid of Plateau

People diverse
In tongue in tribe
Spread on the rocky Plateau
Uniquely united
Like a mass choir
Singing in unison
Like a battalion
Matching in files
Heeding to commander's orders
Matching together for and against
As one man
Not in uniform of clothing
In uniform of purpose
To peak the pyramid
Our historic signpost

In days of yore
You danced together
You cried together
A child for all
All for a child
A leader for all
All for a leader
A plate for one
A plate for all
Tribal marks more than tribal lines
Native tongues more than ethnicity
Nested on the peak of the Plateau

Alas time wore on
Things changed
Bonds of friendship slacked
Community values went extinct
Building blocks stand aloof
Bonds wear away
We stand together in disunity
Attraction turned attrition
Opinions turned suspicious
No need for sledge hammer
No need for explosives
No need for severe or several hits
A light push
And the agitated fraternity is disarrayed
A lizard climbs
The pyramid is crumbled
Prostrated in rubbles
Rubies turned rubbish
Oh Plateau the pyramid
How you lay prostrate

You threw away your jewels
You neglected the cracks
You traded your sons and soul
You adopted tyrants
Everything sold
Nothing saved
Your new love hunts and harasses  you
Sets you against each other
Laughs at sidelines
You count losses
In friends
In assets
Friends turned foes
Foes masquerade as friends
Plateau boils
The pyramid crumbles

Your youths yawn
Jobless and hopeless
They gnaw
Used and abused
Used and dumped
Aged than the aged
They groan
Marginalized and maligned
Leaders now leeches
Sucking us of essence
Corroding our pillars
Shaking our foundations
Dislodging our pyramid
Prostrate in lies

Elders, arise
Leaders, awake
Youths, stand up
Against caterpillars of pillars
Against corrosion of cohesion
Drop the arms
Raise the hands
Surrender to peace
To community and communality
Raise the hands
Make the pyramid
Stand it up
Protect the Plateau
Project the Plateau
Our glory our story
