INSPIRATION 101: THE PLACE OF THE PAST IN THE PRESENT
When you do not know how to deal with the past, the past will definitely deal with you. When not managed, the past frustrates the present and jeopardizes the future. The past could be a chronicle of regrettable, failed experiences or a pleasant catalogue of successful endeavours. Both experiences if not well managed could undo the present and wreck the future
Apostle Paul said "This one thing I do, forgetting the things that are behind, I reach out to what lies ahead". The best way to deal with past failures and/or achievements is to consign and index them in annals of history while reaching out to newer opportunities and greater challenges. A marriage with the past would only bring about divorce with the future.
When the past is replete with colourful achievements, the tendency to regularly engage the reverse gears in order to be placated by the pictures, videos and other archives is high. The temptation may even be more when you carry them into the present and make them look current. Some allow them into their heads and hearts thereby saturating and limiting their hunger for advancement. Parading past achievements amidst present challenges if not for the purpose of inspiration or script- sharing is outright retrogression.
Past failures on the other hand could also get a man stuck in his tracks. The pain and disappointment of the past can haunt and halt for life. The courageous may rise after a fall but the feeble-hearted will faint and sink with the first fall. Failed attempts do not imply failure, but failure to make further attempts does. Reminiscing about past failures if not for the purpose of stock taking and strategy re-jig would only end in wet eyes, aches of the head and heart and eventual retreat into inactivity
We can draw for today from yesterday for a better tomorrow. Allow your past achievements to fuel you in the present for a forceful action in the future. Revert to your past failures for useful lesson notes in addressing challenges of today. On no occasion should you drag the past into the present for no just reason. It would only choke your space for new ideas, blur your vision of better opportunity and make you drive on heavy wheels
If we do not let the past pass away with our past, we may end up passing away with the past.
