INSPIRATION 101: LESSONS FROM WATERS
Natural water ways are never straight. They are a network of meanders forging a path around resistances of hard and sedimentary rocks. They leave in their trail an established path from mountain tops down into sea beds. This is a deliberate reminder to all that resistance along a path does not qualify for withdrawal of mission. It is instead a call to explore available options in our quest to move on.
The earth is not flat; it is round as such we should not expect straight paths anywhere. Automobiles have gears and brakes to provide for calibrated forward, backward as well as no motion. They are all critical in our journey in life. We cannot accelerate all the time and expect to hit our destinations. Critical junctions call for application of brakes and reverse gears may be called upon to forge a new bearing altogether. That life path has immobilized one by applying sharp brakes while others are speeding pass should not give room for anxiety. It also must not be misconstrued for hopelessness or irresponsibility
To the resolute, retreat does not equal surrender; it may be a time out to tinker with options and strategies. No matter how far you have gone the wrong way, it can never get you closer to your destination. Direction is therefore better than speed. What is the wisdom in running on empty and collapse in a sprint when you can actually re-stock now and build capacity for the marathon?
The water course remains a good lesson for all who wish to surmount obstacles along the journey if life. Upon meeting a hard rock, waters evade such obstacles and resort to areas of least resistance, cascading down hill. Through attrition, it weakens adjacent walls along its path thereby collapsing them and expanding their course in the process. When surrounded all round by hard rocks, running water simply overflows them making waterbeds out of rocky resistance. Simply put, running water can never be stagnated. When it runs into a ditch, it only needs time to fill it up and negotiate a way out. When it hits the rock, it navigates a way around or over it and swiftly rushes away. When it hits the walls, it sometimes sweeps them along with it as it insists on moving forward. When madly in need of motion, it sweeps away vegetation, buildings, rocks and every other obstacle along its path, a clear statement of turning allied fronts into allies; making stepping stones out of obstructions. Running water is unstoppable so long as it source keeps a steady flow.
