AMLSN POLITICIANS AND THE MONKEY GAME
By Solomon Chollom
Growing up in the village back then was interesting. The bush and the forest provided a one stop shop. There we farmed, hunted, cooked, bathed and played. It was there I first saw the monkeys and the games they play
A monkey game involves sprint jumps from one branch of tree to the other. It could be horizontal or vertical, upwards or downwards and it is fun to behold any time, any day. Today I liken the quest by Nigerian politicians including AMLSN politicians to the monkey game. The perpetuation of individuals in AMLSN politics characterized by their constant drift and shift from one office to the other has become amusingly interesting. While this has provided a case study for students of political science to explore, political tourists like me enjoy the sight of the emerging monkey game as it is no different to a visit to the Jos Wild Life Park for recreation.
The sprint jump could be from branch to national level (Horizontal Sprinters) or within the branch or National Executive Offices (Vertical Sprinters). It is interesting to read the political resume of these drifters. A quick look will show that from their first employment till date, it has been a tale of consistent, unbroken monkey games. I call them professional unionists. While I have nothing against them, I only wish to ask them to examine themselves as to the motive behind the busy political careers in the light of their achievements in those offices. As AMLSN Politicians et al keep sprint-jumping from one office to the other even when it is evident that they are only catching fun in the monkey game without providing purposeful leadership, electorates must call off the game for more serious business if the years of Metusellah do not offer the Wisdom of Solomon
While the proponents of experience may insist on growing through the ranks, as the older the wine the better, we must trace the political resume of candidates for evidence of achievements to be sure they have perfected the act and art of leadership not that of trickery, sabotage and mere politics since some wines get BITTER not BETTER when they stay longer
As the clock ticks towards the D-day, I advise that wisdom and sound judgement be allowed to prevail. While we wait for that day, enjoy the amusement and fun from the unfolding monkey game. Happy viewing!!
