FALLEN FLOWER: A TRIBUTE

FALLEN FLOWER:  A TRIBUTE
By Solomn Chollom

In your hey days
Your elegance was without equal
Decked with flamboyance and panache
You caught the eyes
Insects scrambled for your nectar
Kings stood still for your unfading rainbow

In your hey days
Your elegance was without equal
Decked with flamboyance and panache
You caught the eyes
Insects scrambled for your nectar
Kings stood still for your unfading rainbow
You were talked about everywhere
O flower, our flower!

Your petals satisfied the eyes
Your nectar satisfied the hungry
Your scent saturated the atmosphere
All that met you were ecstatic
Your colours beautified the horizon
Never a flower like you
O flower, our flower

Our garden looks parched
Desolate and brutalized
Reptiles run rings within
We watch helplessly
Our flower has taken a bow
Succumbing to natural forces
No longer decked on the lilies
Now fallen
Flat and sullen on the ground
O flower, fallen flower!

Though you lie in mortality
Images of you are immortalized
We touch and see them
Ascribed in gold and rubies
Not in human museums
But in monuments of our hearts and minds
We carry them about
No longer limited to a garden
O flower, our fallen flower!

We are flowers like you
We will one day go your way
We will give up this splendour for immortality
Our anchor will one day fall apart
It will succumb to the higher force
What a day it will be
When all that will be left is our story lines
Read here and beyond
For a place in eternity
O, poor flowers we are!

What will our story line draw?
Commendation or condemnation
Tears or cheers
Nods, snubs or sobs
Before the Creator and his creatures
This flower must not fall for nothing
It must not fall into wrath and destruction
Let it fall into glory and praise
Let its beauty remain eternally unfading
O flower, my flower!
